With Dr. Jino Distasio, Professor, Department of Geography, University of Winnipeg
Next Presentation in the Lieutenant Governor’s Evenings at Government House Series of Free Public Events
Lt.-Gov. Anita R. Neville invites Manitobans – particularly those who have never visited Government House before – to attend the next presentation in a series of free public events designed to welcome Manitobans into Government House and showcase outstanding and inspiring Manitobans who, through words and deeds, continually work to make the province better for all.
Lt.-Gov. Neville is pleased to welcome very special guest Dr. Jino Distasio for the April event.
Distasio joined the University of Winnipeg in 1999 as a member of the Department of Geography. For over two decades, he guided the university’s Institute of Urban Studies where he worked extensively in the inner city as well as exploring broader Canadian and global urban issues. This discussion will look at how Winnipeg came to reconcile a difficult past while finding ways to reinvent itself, sometimes with success but often with more despair. The talk will end with thoughts on possibilities for the future in a post-pandemic landscape, the hope of leveraging positive gains achieved over the last 10 years, and the recent intent to reimagine Portage Place.
The event will be held April 11 at Government House. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Program begins at 7 p.m. Parking is available on both sides of the Government House driveway.
Light refreshments to follow.
Those wishing to attend must register in advance with the Office of the Lieutenant Governor by calling 204-945-2753. Guests may reserve a maximum two seats per registration.
Please note: Large bags and backpacks will not be permitted.
