A Very Special Presentation in the Lieutenant-Governor’s Evenings at Government House

Lt.-Gov. Anita R. Neville invites Manitobans to attend a very special presentation to kick off the fall series of Evenings at Government House.
In the summer of 1953, 50 young women from rural Canada embarked on a once-in-a-lifetime journey to London for the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.
Sponsored by Garfield Weston, they sailed across the Atlantic aboard The Empress of France, eager to witness Princess Elizabeth ascend to the throne.
Using rare archival footage, Coronation Girls begins with the excitement of their original journey, highlighting the youthful optimism and adventure of that summer. The film follows the women decades later as they reunite and return to London to retrace their steps, revisit iconic landmarks, and reflect on how the experience shaped their lives.
Following the 90-minute film, there will be a panel discussion and Q&A with award-winning Canadian filmmaker Douglas Arrowsmith and Manitoban Coronation Girls Carol Bowyer Shipley, Barbara Thomas van Gent and Estelle Sures
The event will be held Thursday, September 11 at Government House. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for a pre-event reception. Program will run from 6:20-9:00 p.m. Parking is available on both sides of the Government House driveway.
Those wishing to attend must register in advance with the Office of the Lieutenant-Governor by calling 204-945-2753. Guests may reserve a maximum of two seats per registration.
Please note: large bags and backpacks will not be permitted.
