Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba

The Honourable Anita R. Neville, P.C., O.M.

“Celebrating Asian Heritage Month” with Dr. Stephanie Phetsamay Stobbe

Next Presentation in the Lieutenant-Governor’s Evenings at Government House
Series of Free Public Events

Lt.-Gov. Anita R. Neville invites Manitobans to attend the next presentation of a series of free public events designed to welcome Manitobans into Government House and showcase outstanding and inspiring Manitobans who, through words and deeds, continually work to make the province better for all.

The May event celebrates Asian Heritage Month featuring stories of Southeast Asians in Canada. Dr. Stephanie Phetsamay Stobbe’s presentation will focus on the incredible stories of Southeast Asian refugees from Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. The impact of the Vietnam War, the Lao Secret War and the Cambodian Genocide forced millions to flee their homelands and seek safety in other countries. These courageous refugees risked their lives, journeyed to different host countries and travelled thousands of miles to Canada. The presentation celebrates the refugees’ integration into the fabric of Canadian life and highlights the contributions of the first generation and their descendants, adding to the Canadian history of immigration. The evening will conclude with a special entertainment segment, featuring a cultural performance that highlights the diverse traditions of Southeast Asia, providing a memorable way to celebrate Asian Heritage Month.

The event will be held Tuesday, May 13 at Government House. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Program begins at 7 p.m. Parking is available on both sides of the Government House driveway. Light refreshments to follow.
