Series of Free Public Events
Celebrating 135 Years of Government House

Lt.-Gov. Janice C. Filmon invites Manitobans to join her in engaging in Conversations and Celebrations – a gathering of fascinating and entertaining people from across this great province. Lt.-Gov. Filmon will host a series of monthly free public events throughout 2018 to honour the 135 th birthday of Government House. The second event will be held on Tuesday, June 12 at 6:30 p.m. at Government House.

‘Bee Project Manitoba’ will be the focus of the June event. Dr. Rob Currie from the Department of Entomology at the University of Manitoba, Sarah Semmler from Living Prairie Museum, and Kaaren Pearce from the Assiniboine Park Conservancy will share with guests the role of bees and other pollinators in our ecosystems, challenges they are facing, and how even small actions everyone can take can play a significant role in pollinator conservation. Guests will have opportunity to ask questions and join the conversation. Live local entertainment will round out the evening.

In her role as lieutenant-governor, as well as in her private life, Lt.-Gov. Filmon embraces the role of community connector. Her vision for Conversations and Celebrations is to continue to find meaningful ways to bring Manitobans together to learn, and celebrate unique talents, abilities and perspectives by embracing the rich diversity of this province and its people.

“The 135th anniversary of Government House is the perfect time to launch this program and welcome Manitobans into their ceremonial home,” said Lt.-Gov. Filmon. “I want people to leave Government House at the end of the evening with their hearts and minds full, eyes wide open to the great things happening in our province and inspired to make a difference.”

Events will run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month, with the exception of July, August and December. Those wishing to attend must register in advance with the Office of the Lieutenant Governor by calling 204-945-2753. Registration is now open and is limited to 90 guests. There is no cost to attend.
